Scientific estimates assume that this knowledge goes back to middle Stone Age “Mesolithic period”, about 8,000 BC.

The oldest, well-preserved felt finds are from Asia, from around 400 BC. Many of the ancient techniques are still in use in region of Central Asia for such items as wall hangings, blankets, rings, socks and caps.
